EVALUATION OF SOME SERUM OXIDATIVE STRESS BIOMARKERS IN T2DM PATIENTS ON SAMARRA
“CITY – IRAQ
والمقدم من قبل أ. م. د عثمان رشيد حميد -رئيس قسم الكيمياء- في كلية التربية بجامعة سامراء، والذي جاء في ملخصه:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex disease associated with metabolic disorders. The main aim of this study is to evaluate serum levels of oxidised Low density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and Total antioxidants capacity (TAC) in T2DM patients and healthy controls (HCs) in Samarra city – Iraq. The study involved both genders and ranged age (40–70) for 50 diabetics and 30 HCs participate. A clinical biochemical methodology was followed to determine the levels of concentrations of the Ox-LDL, glucose, AST, ALT, urea, uric acid, albumin and GSH for T2DM patients and HCs. The statistical analysis of the results showed that the Ox-LDL, glucose, AST, ALT, urea, uric acid and MDA were increased significantly in T2DM patients in comparison to HCs. However, albumin and GSH showed a significant decrease in T2DM patients in comparison to controls. It was concluded that T2DM could cause an increase in peroxidation of lipid and oxidative stress, could lead to an increase in the level of Ox-LDL in patients of T2DM associate with healthy control, and could cause problems in liver and kidney functions.
