تعد التقانات الاحيائية حلقة الوصل بين علوم الحياة المختلفة وقد تطور تطورا سريعا في العقود الاخيرة واصبح جزءاً اساسيا في كل البحوث العلمية ومن اجل المساهمة في ذلك فان قسم التقنيات الاحيائية يسعى الى تطوير المنهاج العملي واستعمال الاساليب التعليمية الحديثة و التجارب العملية المتطورة ومواكبة التطور العلمي والتكنولوجي وتنمية قدرات الطلبة

تهيئة ملاكات متخصصة في مجالات التقانات الاحيائية بكافة فروعها وتزويدهم بمعلومات حديثة في شتى مجالات الحياة المعاصرة كالتقنية الحيوية النباتية والاستفادة الكاملة من منتوجات النبات ومزارعة وهندسة الكائنات الحية وراثيا والبحث عن مواقع التحوير الجيني والتقانات الاحيائية الطبية وانتاج المركبات الدوائية والاستصلاح البيئي للتخلص من ملوثات الجو والتربة والمياه واستثمار الكائنات الحية الدقيقة في استخراج مواد ذات قيمة حيوية وغيرها فيما يتعلق بالعلوم الاخرى

اعداد الكوادر العلمية وامداد سوق العمل بحاجته من المتخصصين في مجالات التقنية الحيوية مثل الصحة والزراعة والصناعة والدفاع والتعليم والبحث العلمي وغيرها .
تشجيع البحث العلمي وتزويد الطلبة بالمهارات الاساسية في التقانات والتطبيقات الحيوية
تشجيع الكادر التدريسي على المشاركة في الندوات والدورات والمؤتمرات العلمية داخل وخارج العراق
رفد المجتمع بحملة الشهادات العليا الماجستير والدكتوراه المؤهلين للعمل كباحثين في المجالات البحثية المختلفة والتي تواكب التقدم العلمي
المساهمة في حل المشاكل العلمية التي تساهم في خدمة خطط التنمية في البلد

Biotechnology Department is one of the important scientific departments in the College of Applied Sciences, which began in the academic year 2021-2020, where provides distinguished educational programs that comply with quality standards and meet the requirements of the labor market; and professionally in a wide range of fields, including agriculture, health, criminal detection, soil salinization reform and many others.

**** Department aims:

1- Providing students with knowledge and skills in the fields of biotechnologies and their practical applications in line with scientific progress.

2- Providing scientifically qualified expertise and competencies to meet the needs of the development plans in the country and serve the labor market.

3- Serving society and the environment by spreading awareness in the biotechnology field, providing scientific advice, and conducting academic and applied research.

4- Encouraging scientific research by strengthening communication with research institutions inside and outside the country.

5- Develop the students’ ability to face various scientific and practical problems and try to find appropriate solutions to them and improve the research of the bachelor’s stage.

6. The maturation of specialists group in the biotechnology field and preparing them with sufficient numbers to create elite that contributes to laying the basic building block of biological production and benefiting from the expertise available at the country level

***Scientific laboratories:

Biotechnology Department contains two laboratories for preliminary studies. Each laboratory accommodates about twenty students. All of these laboratories are furnished by laboratory furniture; contain various glasstools and some laboratory equipment such as sensitive scales, centrifuges, water baths and extraction devices, the department includes many important laboratories, including

Basic Technology laboratory1This laboratory presents experiments on how to identify some scientific and anatomical experiments related to practical and industrial uses, to benefit from the vital compounds produced by some types of plants, especially plants with medicinal qualities and industrial production such as turbines, resins, rubber products, etc.
Basic Technology laboratory2This laboratory offers its students a set of scientific experiments concerned with the medical and pharmaceutical use of biological compounds that are produced by a group of different organisms such as plants, algae and bacteria. molecular
Biochemistry LaboratoryThis laboratory provides experiments on how to identify biological compounds such as sugars, carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins and lipids through special examinations and specific measurements, in addition to teaching students how to conduct biochemical tests related to the human body.
Automatic Analysis LaboratoryThis laboratory offers high-tech experiments in which fourth-grade students learn to determine the quantities of elements in trace quantities by atomic spectrometry in addition to a highly selective liquid chromatography (HPLC) device. There are other experiments such as gas chromatography, which is used to separate chemical compounds.

A graduate of the Biotechnology Department can work in the following fields:

1- Pharmaceutical industry: A large number of pharmaceutical companies are spread in all countries, and it is impossible for drug production laboratories to be free from the presence of dozens of technicians who are fully responsible for the production of all types of drugs and examination for them to ensure their quality. Science, specifically those with an academic degree in biochemistry and special chemistry.

2- Medical analysis field: Graduates of the Department of Biotechnology can work in a laboratory, and they can open their own laboratory after obtaining a diploma in the field of medical analysis.

3- Petroleum field: graduates of the Department of Biotechnology can work in one of the petroleum companies, and their work is petroleum refining), and petroleum refining is intended to separate petroleum into other components such as gasoline, kerosene, and jet fuel through some chemical processes.

4- Water and Sanitation Companies: Graduates of the Biotechnology Department can work in water companies, where they desalinate and treat water so that it is safe to drink. Graduates can also work in sewage companies.
