The Department of Chemistry Discusses Sustainability in Winter: Environmentally Friendly Heating in a Scientific Seminar

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra held a scientific seminar entitled “Sustainability in Winter: Environmentally Friendly Heating,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Huda Matar and Assistant Lecturer Mais Subhi Wasmi.

The presenters aimed to raise awareness of the concept of sustainability and the importance of applying it to heating systems during the winter season, describing it as a balance between environmental, economic, and social dimensions, while emphasizing the responsible use of natural resources, reducing emissions, and improving quality of life.

The lecturers reviewed the most prominent sustainable practices at both the individual and community levels, such as rationalizing energy consumption, improving home insulation, and encouraging the use of high-efficiency appliances. They also presented the most important environmentally friendly heating systems, including high-efficiency heat pumps, geothermal heating, underfloor radiant heating, as well as solar thermal and photovoltaic energy used for water heating and electricity generation.

The seminar concluded by emphasizing the importance of adopting a sustainable lifestyle, seeking clean and climate-friendly alternatives, particularly reducing reliance on fossil fuels, which contributes to lowering carbon emissions and preserving the environment for future generations.
